The Zebra TC52 family consists of two scanner modes, the Zebra TC52 and the Zebra TC52-HC.

The Zebra TC52 is the standard model and is designed to withstand tough industrial environments. This model suits many industries, such as manufacturing, warehousing and logistics.

The Zebra TC52-HC is the healthcare model designed to meet the needs of hospitals, medical clinics, and other healthcare facilities. This device features a durable medical-grade plastic housing that is resistant to chemical cleaners and disinfectants used in medical settings.

Both Zebra TC52 and Zebra TC52-HC are further available in two variants.

Its sleek design and compact footprint make it easy to hold and operate with just one hand. The device’s ergonomic design and well-balanced weight distribution also ensure that it is comfortable for an entire shift without causing any fatigue or discomfort.

The Zebra TC52 scanner is shipped with a phone-sized form factor. However, the scanner supports other form factors that can be purchased as add-ons.

The TC52x and TC52ax models both support an electronic trigger handle and a hand strap. On the other hand, the TC52x-HC and TC52ax-HC models support a belt clip and silicon rubber hand strap.

On the front of the device, you’ll find a 5-inch HD multi-touch capacitive display with Corning Gorilla Glass for optimum protection against scratches and shattering.

The Zebra TC52 and Zebra TC52-HC may resemble smartphones, but they are built with industrial-grade features. They are designed to withstand water, concrete, rain, and dusty environments. With their unibody design, these devices offer extra impact protection for sensitive electronics.

The Zebra TC52 and Zebra TC52-HC, along with the battery, have IP65 and IP68 sealing according to IEC sealing standards. The IP65 rating guarantees full protection against dust and low-pressure water jets from all directions. The Zebra TC52 scanner is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core 2.45 GHz processor.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 is a mid-range 8-core chipset manufactured using a 14-nanometer process technology. The chipset consists of four 2.2 GHz Kryo 260 Gold (Cortex-A73) cores and four 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver (Cortex-A53) cores.

The Snapdragon 660 also integrates an Adreno 512 GPU that easily handles highly graphic interactive apps, allowing for a smooth user experience. With its powerful Snapdragon 660 processor, the Zebra TC52 can handle multiple applications and tasks without stuttering or lagging.

The Zebra TC52 scanner is offered in two different onboard memory combinations based on the chosen variant.

The base model (TC52x and TC52x-HC) comes with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB UFS flash memory. Meanwhile, the advanced model (TC52ax and TC52ax-HC) comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB UFS flash memory.

The Zebra TC52 scanner runs on the latest Android 13 (Tiramisu) operating system. Impressive Display With Advanced Touchscreen Technology

The Zebra TC52 boasts a 5-inch LED backlight capacitive touchscreen display. The display has a full high-definition resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, delivering sharp image quality with vivid colours. It has a brightness of 600 nits, allowing you to view the screen clearly in outdoor environments and direct sunlight without compromising visibility.

The Zebra TC52’s display supports dual-mode capacitive touch, allowing compatibility with the stylus and bare and gloved fingertips. It features a water droplet rejection coating, which prevents water droplets from interfering with touchscreen gestures.

Additionally, the display comes with a fingerprint-resistant anti-smudge coating. This coating makes the display resistant to fingerprints, oil residue and dirt and helps keep the display clean and scratch-free.

The touch panel on the TC52 scanning device is optically bounded, meaning the glass panel and touch controller are glued together with a layer of resin, creating a solid laminate unit. This optically bonded display is far more rugged and reliable than an on-cell touch display. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened glass known for its durability and scratch resistance.

Keyboard and Hard Keys

The Zebra TC52 mobile computer does not feature a physical keyboard. Instead, it has an on-screen virtual keyboard that can be used to enter text and numbers. The device also provides multiple keyboard options such as Enterprise Keyboard (to be downloaded from Zebra Support Site), Android Keyboard and Gboard.

The TC52 device features a set of hard keys that allows you to access and control certain functions quickly and easily. It has the following hard keys.

Battery Performance

The Zebra TC52 device houses a rechargeable Li-ion battery with a capacity of 4,150 mAh and an energy density of 15.48 Watt-hours. The 4,150 mAh battery is capable of powering the device for up to 14 hours on a single charge, depending on the application and usage intensity.

The battery supports fast charging of up to 2.4 A, allowing it to be fully charged in a short span of time. When fully depleted, the battery can reach a 90% charge in approximately 2.5 hours and a full 100% charge in around three hours.

For optimal fast charging results, it is recommended to use only Zebra charging accessories and batteries. It is also advised to charge the batteries at room temperature and with the device in sleep mode.

The Zebra TC52 comes with a Warm Swap mode feature, which allows you to swap out a depleted battery for a freshly charged one without powering the device off. The scanner provides up to two minutes (120 seconds) of battery change time, which is more than enough time to swap out and replace the battery.

The Zebra TC52 scanners also support an intelligent battery management system called PowerPrecision Console. PowerPrecision Console is a complimentary Mobility DNA tool (powered by Zebra) that displays real-time data about a battery’s charging history and health condition, enabling you to identify potential problems before they arise.

Onboard Connectivity

The Zebra TC52 scanner comes with both wired and wireless connectivity options, allowing you to connect and sync the device with other devices or systems. Both TC52x and TC52ax models come with the same set of connectivity options.

NFC (Near Field Communication)

The Zebra TC52 scanner device supports Near Field Communication (NFC), a wireless communication technology that enables devices to exchange data with other NFC-enabled devices over short-range, usually less than 4 centimetres. The NFC antenna of the device is strategically placed at the top to effortlessly read NFC cards while the device is in use.

Using NFC, the scanner can perform the following functions.

  • Read contactless cards such as contactless tickets, ID cards and ePassport
  • Read and write information to contactless cards such as SmartPosters and tickets, as well as devices with NFC interfaces such as vending machines
  • Read information from supported medical sensors
  • Pair with supported Bluetooth devices such as printers, ring scanners
  • Exchange data with another NFC device
  • Emulate a contactless card such as a ticket

 

The Zebra TC52 scanner operates two NFC modes.

  1. Reader mode – The computer reads digital data from an NFC tag.
  2. Card emulation mode – The computer emulates an NFC card (smart card) that an external card reader can access.

Audio Features

The Zebra TC52 comes with an integrated audio system, which includes, three microphones with noise cancellation and a front-facing speaker.

The three microphones combined with noise-cancellation technology ensure that the device captures clear audio for voice commands and recordings even in noisy environments. The front-facing speaker provides loud and clear audio output with no distortion or noise interference.

The device also features a 3.5 mm headphone jack, allowing you to connect wired headphones/earphones to the device.

PTT Support

The Zebra TC52 handheld mobile computer supports Push-To-Talk (PTT) technology, allowing the device to be used for instant communication, similar to a two-way radio or walkie-talkie.

The device comes with a Zebra PTT Express Voice Client. This client facilitates PTT communication among various enterprise devices. PTT Express utilises the existing WLAN infrastructure, allowing for simple PTT communication without the need for a voice communication server.

Built-in Sensors

The Zebra TC52 scanner device is equipped with a range of built-in sensors that provide real-time data on the environment and usage, allowing for more efficient operations.

High-Quality Cameras

The rear-facing camera boasts an impressive 13 MP resolution with autofocus (Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) – only in TC52ax) for taking crystal-clear photos. The camera has an f/2.2 aperture and LED flash that combinedly ensures that you get the best photos even in low light conditions. The Zebra TC52’s rear-facing camera can also be used as a camera-based barcode scanning solution and offers the following features.

The Zebra TC52 scanner is fitted with different scan engines based on the selected model and variant.

The Zebra TC52 healthcare version (both models) and Zebra TC52x use Zebra SE4710 1D/2D scan engine, while the Zebra TC52ax uses Zebra SE55 Advanced Range 1D/2D scan engine with IntelliFocus.

Zebra Zero-Touch

Zebra Zero-Touch is an advanced solution based on Google’s Android Zero-Touch enrollment program. Device Diagnostics Tool

Device Diagnostics tool is an advanced diagnosis and troubleshooting tool for resolving performance issues on Zebra mobile computers. With this Mobility DNA utility, administrators and end users can quickly test and diagnose the main operability of Zebra mobile computers with a single button press.

The tool automatically identifies which systems are present on a device, including the scanner, buttons, touch screen, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, batteries, WWAN, and audio, and allows the user to select the tests they want to run.

The results of each test are displayed in green if passed and red if failed, making it easy to determine whether the device needs technical IT support or Zebra Repair Centre support. Additionally, the test result data can be used by Zebra technical support experts to troubleshoot the device over the phone and solve the issue quickly.

Device Tracker

Zebra Device Tracker is a cloud-based solution that enables easy tracking and locating of lost or missing Zebra mobile devices. It provides teams with complete visibility into the location and status of their devices.

Zebra Device Tracker is extremely easy to set up and is scalable to up to 100,000 devices in 5,000 locations. RxLogger
