Mobile Printers

Mobile printers are compact and lightweight printing devices designed for on-the-go printing. They have built-in batteries, allowing them to be used without plugging into an electrical outlet.

Mobile printers usually connect to host devices via Bluetooth, NFC, or WiFi. Some models also have USB host ports, ethernet interfaces and microSD card slots to provide additional connectivity options.

Mobile printers are best suited for low-volume, on-demand printing applications such as.

  • Retail price labelling
  • Barcode label printing
  • Mobile point of sale (MPOS) receipt printing
  • Healthcare specimen labelling
  • Picking, staging, packing & shipping label printing

Desktop Printers

Desktop printers are compact, lightweight printing machines designed for environments where space is limited. Desktop printers have a small footprint and can be easily placed on a desk or countertop.

Desktop printers do not require any special installation or IT support. They offer various connectivity options, including USB, ethernet, WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth.

TSC desktop printers are shipped with premium features like high-resolution printing, RFID tagging, and remote printer management.

In general, desktop printers have a low printing speed and low label capacity compared to other printers. They are best suited for low- to medium-volume printing applications.

Some common applications of desktop printers are.

  • Product labelling
  • Office & file labelling
  • Printing shipping labels
  • Printing receipts
  • Printing products and items tags

Industrial Printers

Industrial printers are large, heavy-duty machines designed for high-performance and high-volume printing applications. They feature a robust construction to withstand demanding industrial environments.

Industrial printers offer faster print speeds (up to 14 IPS) and deliver high-quality, crisp, and clear labels. They support various options and accessories to enhance functionality and meet different needs. For easy operation, industrial printers usually come with a touch-enabled colourful TFT or LCD display.

RFID printers are primarily used in warehouses and distribution centres for inventory management, product tracking, and identification.

Barcode Inspection Printers

Barcode inspection printers are devices that can print and verify barcodes simultaneously.

Barcode inspection printers are equipped with a unique data verification technology that detects barcode printing errors like low print quality and missing or incorrect characters.

In case a barcode printing error is detected, the printer strikes the label and automatically prints a replacement label with the correct information.

Barcode inspection printers are mostly used in mission-critical applications where barcode quality is of utmost importance.

Some common applications of barcode inspection printers are.

  • Food and beverage labelling
  • Pharmaceuticals and healthcare products labelling
  • Automotive parts labelling

TPH and Cutter Applications

TPH and cutter applications monitor the thermal printhead and cutter condition in real-time. It further includes the following applications.

TPH Care

TPH Care is responsible for monitoring the condition of the thermal printhead. It scans and detects faulty or bad dots (resistors) on the printhead.

TPH ID displays the serial number of the printhead and cutter. This helps in reassuring the quality and authenticity of the product.

Cutter Count

Cutter Count tracks the total number of labels cut by the cutter. It uses this information to estimate when the cutter needs to be replaced.

TPH Odometer

TPH Odometer keeps track of the total printing done by the printer. It uses this information to estimate when the printhead needs to be replaced.

Print Density and Speed Parameter

Print Density and Speed Parameters track the printer’s print resolution and printing speed. It then works with TPH Care and TPH Odometer to provide accurate information about the printhead.

Top and Bottom Sensors

Top and Bottom Sensors are used to detect the presence of labels and tags. They also identify black marks and gap media, allowing printers to support a wider range of print media.

Top and Bottom Sensors are responsible for providing accurate label information to the printer.

Smart Battery Management System (BMS)

Smart Battery Management System (BMS) monitors battery health, remaining capacity, charge cycles, and charging time. It uses this information and estimates and alerts when the battery needs to be replaced.

Who Makes TSC Printers? - A Brief About TSC Printronix Auto ID

TSC Auto ID technology (now called TSC Printronix Auto ID) was a sister company of Taiwan Semiconductor Company (TSC).

TSC is a Taiwanese multinational semiconductor contract manufacturing and design company founded in 1987. It is among the world’s most valuable semiconductor companies, with AMD, Apple, ARM, Broadcom, Marvell, MediaTek, and Nvidia among its many customers.

Arthur Wang, founder and CEO of Taiwan Semiconductor, recognized the potential of the barcode industry and the need for a reliable yet low-cost barcode label printer. With this in mind, he set up a printer division for OEM partnership with Eltron in January 1991. Arthur Wang then launched TSC into the auto-identification and capture (AIDC) industry.

Soon after, TSC began designing and manufacturing barcode label printers in its Taiwan-based manufacturing facilities. The company expanded to America (in 1999) and Europe (in 2002) to better serve its global customer base.

In 2007, TSC Auto ID technology split off from TSC and became an independent company. The newly formed company was then listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 2008.

Over the years, TSC Auto ID technology acquired and merged several companies to boost its product portfolio and global reach. One of the most prominent and recent mergers was with Printronix Auto ID in 2022. Thereafter, TSC Auto ID technology is now known as TSC Printronix Auto ID.

Today, with thirty years of experience, TSC Printronix Auto-ID has become a leading manufacturer of high-performance barcode printers. It is headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, with offices in America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific with a team of passionate and experienced professionals.
